Bob Gamer established Temple Slug on April Fool's Day, 1970 and has been hanging around ever since. After a youthful career as a paperboy, stove cleaner in an appliance store and "boy Friday" in a small-town junior department store, he has an old-fashioned style of retail in his blood. He also picked up a Ph.D. along the way, and has written five books. Keith Buchanan manages the store. He's been involved with the store for over 25 years, learning every aspect including sales, service, buying, ad design, and daily operations. Keith earned a BFA in design from the Kansas City Art Institute and later earned a Master's degree in Industrial Design in Chicago. He savors the pleasure of a properly brewed cup of tea. J.R. Russell runs the day-to-day operations of the store with Keith. As buyer and display coordinator, he works to find unique gifts and home furnishings that create a distinctive look and feel at the Slug. He is also our resident expert on incense of all types, and makes his own blends for personal enjoyment -- if you ask nicely, he might even burn some for you.
